What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese, non-invasive,
non-manipulative technique for stress reduction and relaxation that
also promotes healing.
The word comes from two Japanese words – Rei and Ki.
“Rei” means universal or spiritual consciousness. “Ki” means (same
as Chi in Chinese) vital life force, therefore the combined
term is defined as “spiritually guided vital life force”
Reiki is an energy healing system where the practitioner serves as
an open channel for transmitting the “ki” to others. The
energy is channeled through the hands to the client, which activates
the body’s own natural ability to heal itself. Reiki goes to
wherever it is needed most, releasing blocked energies, cleansing
the body of toxins, working to create a state of balance and harmony
to promote relaxation and healing.
Reiki is easily passed from the Reiki Master/Teacher to the student
by way of the attunement process. It is accompanied by various
techniques to administer to yourself or others.
Even though Reiki will automatically go to wherever it is needed,
there are many techniques that have been developed (beginning
with Dr. Mikao Usui) to assist in treatments. Learning these
many and various techniques can sometimes be very challenging,
especially if attempted to learn in a short period of time.

How Does Reiki Work?
The Reiki ability is transferred to the student by a Reiki Master
during an attunement process. During this process, the
“spiritual/universal consciousness” (rei) makes adjustments
in the student’s chakras and energy pathways to
accommodate the ability to channel the Reiki and link the student to
the Reiki source. The Reiki Master does not direct the process
but is simply a channel for the attunement energy flowing from a
higher power (the spiritual universe).
Once you have received a Reiki attunement, you will have it for the
remainder of your life. It does not wear off and you can never
lose it.
One attunement per Reiki Level is all that is necessary to activate
the ability to channel Reiki. The benefits of attunement
include refinement of the reiki energy that you channel, increased
strength of the energy, healing of personal problems, clarity of
mind, increased psychic sensitivity and a raised level of
consciousness.
After the attunement, all that is necessary for practitioners
to use Reiki is to place their hands above the person with the
intention of promoting healing. The Reiki energies will begin
to flow automatically. Reiki knows where to go and what to do.
It will communicate with the client’s higher self. The best
results are achieved by simply remaining calm and relaxed while
enjoying the soothing energies that are flowing through you.
Reiki can never harm anyone. It is always benevolent. It
never depletes your energy. Because of this, giving a
treatment always increases one’s energy and leaves one surrounded
with loving feelings of well-being.

What Is The History of Reiki?
Reiki’s tradition and history is oral and generally passed from
Reiki Master to student during training, therefore, you may
experience some differences in dates, times and periods. Some
of the writings tell the story of how Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese
Christian educator, discovered the ancient healing art in Japan in
the late 1800’s. His revelations paved the way for Reiki’s
emergence in the United States and the rest of the world.
Based on ancient Buddhist and Hindu teachings, Dr. Usui evolved a
system of healing through study, research and meditation. He
practiced and taught this method using the laying on of hands.
In the traditional Reiki lineage, he trained Chujiri Hayashi to
continue his work after his death. Dr. Hayashi then opened a
clinic and school in Tokyo where he trained his successor, Mrs.
Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the mainland of the U.S.
Between1945 and 1970, Mrs. Takata was the only living Reiki Master
in the world. Between 1970 and 1980, she trained over twenty
(20) Reiki Masters. Mrs. Takata’s granddaughter, Phyllis Lei
Furumoto, is the current Grand Master of the Usui System of Natural
Healing (Usui Shiki Ryoho).

Our Approach To Teaching Reiki
Reiki is a very eclectic energy modality. There are many
different types of Reiki as well as manners in which it is taught.
Our parent organization (QBS, LLC) provides guidelines for how our
school teaches and practices the Usui System of Reiki.
Our purpose is not only to assist you in the cultivation of the
Reiki energy but also guide you in the practical knowledge
associated with Reiki practices.
We feel that we can increase the quality of the student
practitioner’s academic learning capabilities when the levels are
divided into smaller units thus allowing the student practitioner to
better acclimate to the techniques and enhance their acclimation to
the Reiki energy. This allows the student to acquire a greater
quality and higher standard of learning at each level.
We further feel that this allows the student to become a better
practitioner. It also provides more options from which the student
has to choose based on their desire of accomplishment (everyone
does not necessarily want to become a Reiki Master/Teacher but may
desire an Advanced Reiki Training lever or Master Practitioner level).
Therefore, this school has developed its Reiki Levels and curriculum
in accordance with the origin of Usui Reiki as it relates to the
Mission and Philosophy of QiSsage Body Systems, LLC.
Therefore, the following levels system has been instituted in this
school:
Level I
Includes the history of Reiki, lineage of Reiki, principles,
chakra system, hand positions for self-treatment, and an attunement.
No symbols are given at this level. Level I is said to heal on the
“Physical” level.
Level II
Includes Reiki symbols, Kanji hand positions, Byosen scanning,
hand positions for treatment of others, Mental/Emotional Healing,
Distant Healing and an attunement. Three Reiki symbols are given at
this level. Discussion of items and equipment that may be used for
treatment of others. Level II is said to heal on the “Emotional”
level.
Level III (ART)
Level III is often called, “Advanced Reiki Training” (ART).
Techniques included are: Reiki & crystals, making a Reiki crystal
grid, Japanese Reiki Techniques (JRT), aura clearing,
beaming and alternate treatment positions for self and others. There
is an attunement and an additional symbol given at this level. Level
III is a higher development of the “Emotional’ level of healing.
Master (Practitioner)
This level includes Master symbols and their use for
self-treatment or treatment of others at a higher level of spiritual
connection, the Hayashi Healing Guide (HHG), Reiki Moving
Meditation, Reiki Master meditation, Aura Clearing, Healing
Attunement, Reiki I and II Attunements, Attuning Self and Distant
Attunements. The business of Reiki is also discussed. This level is
the “Spiritual” healing and the beginning of a year long healing
process.
Master/Teacher
This final level does not have any additional attunements. It
will include teaching how to give Attunements for Reiki III (ART)
and Master Practitioner/Master Teacher Levels. Also the
Western/Takata System of Attunements for First Degree, Second Degree
and Third Degree Master Attunements as well as Alternate Western/Takata
Reiki I Attunement and the Usui Four Attunement Method for Reiki
Level I will be taught and explored.
This course will focus on how to teach Reiki. The emphasis will be
placed on importance of the subject matter, teaching techniques,
group dynamics, and curriculum development.
It will also investigate creating Reiki classes, furthering the
development of your practice, business management and relevant
topics.
This level is the maturation of your Spiritual journey.
Note: We reserve the right to change, modify or
alter the levels as we grow in our education, experiences and insight
into Reiki. (*Revised 8/12/09)

Refresher Classes
There are times when students do not maintain there practice or
have a desire to cross-train in other styles of Reiki.
Sometimes they just feel a need to refresh their technical
knowledge. Therefore, we offer “refresher classes.”
To qualify for a refresher class, you must be a present or past
student of this school or if not from this school, submit a valid
Reiki certification (at the level requested) from a
certified Reiki Master/Teacher from your past training.
Refresher classes are arranged by special permission. In order
to attend as a “refresher student,” you must first contact
this school to have your eligibility verified. This can be
accomplished by calling (609) 744-0586 or emailing us at
yangqichen@aol.com.
Students enrolling in refresher classes may be attending in a
regularly scheduled class, however, priority for enrollment goes to
first-time students because class sizes are limited. We
reserve the right to schedule a class comprised totally of
refresher student applicants.
A repeat attunements are generally not given however, “refresher
student certificates” will be presented. Refresher students
will be required to purchase the necessary books, booklets and
materials used in the classes unless they already have such
materials in their possession.
